“ I was struck with the homely feeling of the village, the sort of place which you would remark when passing, “what a nice little place!” You know it does look rather quaint with its own promenade and all the property newly painted and looking spick and span. Its inhabitants all seem to take such a pride in their houses. But the remarkable feature about its individuality, which it has created, is that it extends to the confines of Howe Bridge only”
